Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we embark on this journey together through the pages of our first school newsletter, I extend my warmest greetings to each member of our cherished school community. In these times of uncertainty, I find comfort and strength in the unity, resilience, and unwavering support that define us.
First and foremost, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated Coordinator, Mrs Abdioglu and teaching staff. Their unwavering commitment to providing a quality education amidst unforeseen challenges is truly commendable. Through their ingenuity and tireless efforts, they continue to ensure that our students thrive academically and emotionally, despite the hurdles we face.
Additionally, I extend sincere thanks to our invaluable Learning Support staff, whose dedication to students requiring additional assistance during this transition period is nothing short of remarkable. Their patience, empathy, and energy create an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all.
Furthermore, I want to acknowledge the selfless dedication of our parent volunteers, whose tireless efforts, such as preparing books for our library, enrich the educational experience for all our students. Your generosity embodies the spirit of community and solidarity that defines us as a school.
As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, let us draw strength from the unity and collaboration that bind us together. Together, we have demonstrated that adversity only serves to strengthen our resolve and deepen our commitment to educational excellence.
I also extend my heartfelt thanks to the teacher, Ms Taylan on bus duty and our dedicated bus driver Soner, whose vigilance and care ensure the safety and well-being of our students every day during their commute.
Furthermore, as we approach the holy month of Ramadan, I extend warm congratulations and heartfelt wishes to our Muslim families in our school community. May this sacred month bring you peace, blessings, and spiritual growth. Ramadan Mubarak to you and your loved ones.
Lastly, I want to offer my best wishes to our Year 3 students as they prepare for the upcoming NAPLAN exams.
In closing, let us remain steadfast in our commitment to nurturing and supporting the growth and development of every child in our care. Together, we will overcome challenges, celebrate successes, and continue to build a brighter future for our school community.
With deep appreciation,
Warm regards,

The Importance of Reading at Home
The importance of reading for primary students cannot be overstated, as it lays the foundation for lifelong learning and success. Here are some tips on how to foster a love of reading:
Useful Tips
For Young Readers:
- Read aloud regularly with them to foster language skills and comprehension.
- Encourage them to explore books that align with their interests and hobbies.
- Break down difficult words together, using context clues and phonics.
- Create a cozy reading environment at home with a designated reading nook.
- Make reading interactive by asking questions about the story and characters to promote critical thinking.
For Older Primary Readers:
- Encourage independent reading habits by providing a variety of genres and authors.
- Discuss themes, character motivations and plot developments to deepen understanding.
- Introduce them to strategies like summarising, making predictions and connecting texts to their own experiences.
- Encourage writing activities like journaling, book reviews or creative storytelling to enhance comprehension and expression skills.
- Foster a love for lifelong learning by showing how reading extends beyond books, such as through newspapers, magazines and online articles.

Learning Support
At Amity College, we believe that every student is unique and capable of learning, if the curriculum is differentiated to suit their individual needs. Our Learning Support department aims to cater for the diverse needs of all students regardless of their abilities, backgrounds and aspirations.
All our students have the right to access and participate in the same curriculum, and it is up to us to give them the opportunity to learn as their peers. When children are identified with particular needs, either educationally or social/emotionally, Individual Learning Plans are developed, as well as intervention or assistance programs are organised to address their particular needs.
To achieve this, learning support occurs as a multi-tiered system of support according to student need:
- As a whole class (work is differentiated, modified, simplified or organised in various ways;
- In a small group setting;
- Specialised intervention (e.g. MiniLit, MacqLit – Reading Decoding Programs);
- As a 1:1 session.
Our Learning Support department consists of:
Head of Learning Support, Learning Support Coordinators, Learning Support Teachers and Learning Support Assistants.
It is our mission to support students with identified learning needs within each classroom and to help every child reach their full-potential.

A Fantastic Start in KA!
I am so excited to share the latest happenings from our Kindergarten class! Our little ones are settling in beautifully and embracing the wonders of learning with open arms. In our math sessions, we've been exploring numbers, shapes and patterns through hands-on activities and games. From counting colourful objects to sorting shapes, our students are developing a strong foundation in Mathematics while having fun.
Artistic expression is also thriving in our classroom! Through various mediums, our young artists are discovering the joy of creativity and self-expression. Beyond academics, we're also focusing on building meaningful relationships. Through collaborative projects and group activities, our students are getting to know each other, forming friendships, and creating a supportive learning community where everyone feels valued and respected.
I am thrilled to see how KA is settling in and flourishing in their new environment. Thank you for your continued support as we embark on this exciting journey together!

A Great Start in KB!
We're thrilled to announce that KB has kicked off the year with flying colours! From day one, students in KB have been diving headfirst into their studies, relishing every moment of learning in our dynamic and engaging environment. Not only are they learning new skills, but they're also fostering strong bonds with their peers and teachers, creating a supportive and collaborative community within the classroom. It's truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm for learning and the positive relationships they're building along the way. Keep up the fantastic work, KB!

A Wonderful Start in Year 1!
Year 1 Class 1A is thriving! We've settled into our new classroom smoothly and began delving into an incredible amount of new content. 1A have been exploring narratives in English going through the concepts of a narrative structure and a different range of fairy tales. In sport, 1A have been learning about ball control and how we use these skills in sports including basketball.
We also have been very busy learning data in Mathematics, learning about the different ways we can record and collect information. Students are mastering storytelling, honing ball skills, and exploring numbers. We're excited about their progress and upcoming events.
Additionally, we had a special visit from a clown who brought joy to the class and made balloon animals for everyone.
A great way to start the year, 1A! Here is to the amazing, fun adventures in which we will experience throughout the year!

A Fabulous Start to Year 2A!
As we reach the halfway point of Term 1 in Year 2, we are delighted to share the exciting happenings in our classroom. The first few weeks have been all about building connections and fostering a sense of community among our students. Through various group activities and discussions, our young learners have been getting to know one another, discovering shared interests, and embracing the diversity within our class. In addition to these social interactions, our students have also been settling into the routine of the school year, making the transition to Amity College seamlessly.
One highlight has been the collaborative effort in creating beautiful lanterns together, showcasing the importance of teamwork and creativity. Furthermore, our budding tech enthusiasts have started learning to use computers, opening up new avenues for exploration and expanding their digital skills. We are excited to see the continued growth and development of our Year 2 students as they embark on the rest of the term.

3A`s Awesome Adventure!
In 3A, we have hit the ground running and each student has shown so much enthusiasm, resilience and excellence in the last few weeks. We began the term by forming friendships, building on our team work and getting to know one another while also engaging in a variety of activities to facilitate our love of learning. Our Science lessons have been, according to our class consensus, the most fun we have had. We have been exploring solids, liquids and gases through different lenses, even integrating it within our sports lessons.
Overall, we are off to a great start, learning through various experiences in Drama, Art, Maths and English as well. We are so excited to keep sharing what we have learned and cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings!

First Day of School
It was delightful to greet all the parents as they accompanied their children to school on the first day. Both parents and students were treated to a special performance by a clown on the second day. We anticipate that this marks the beginning of numerous enriching experiences your children will encounter at Amity College.

Library Lessons Have Begun!
With great enthusiasm, our Leppington students started their love of reading. During their library lessons, the students are encouraged to select a book and sit and enjoy looking through the pages. This week they had the pleasure of borrowing the book they wanted to read again.
Students are reminded to take good care of the books by keeping them in their library bags and returning them on their assigned library day to pick up a new read.

Parent Volunteers
Leppington Campus Management would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents who generously volunteered their time to come to school and cover library books. Your dedication is truly appreciated and plays a vital role in enhancing our library environment for all students. Your support means the world to us!
A special thank you goes to the Prestons staff and some Prestons parents who have also assisted us in covering library books by not only coming into the school but also taking books home to cover.
